Ashiatsu Massage

Although the Japanese term "Ashiatsu" is used in the trade name, the technique Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy® and its application are very different. The root word "Ashi" means "foot" and "Atsu" means "pressure", so together they symbolize foot pressure. Only a few forms of barefoot massage use the hands above the head, and some of these healing art forms can be found from Eastern Asia to the Pacific Rim.

Studying AOBT has taught me how to use my foot as another tool for working on the bigger muscles of the back, hips and legs. Using the overhead bars for leverage and balance allows me to adjust my pressure for the comfort of each client. Ideal for those who love deeper work. The comfortable broad pressure of the foot feels like a really big hand, relieves tight muscles and improves circulation. Because it is not pokey or painful it stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system more quickly and is deeply relaxing. My hands are saved for the neck and arms and for more detailed trigger point work if it is needed.

This technique has been featured on CNN, The Discovery Channel, Great Spa Getaways, and The Travel Channel, as well as countless magazines. Canyon Ranch, The Bellagio, Golden Door - just a few of the many spas around the country who offer this unique massage.

Benefits of Essential Oils

  • Essential oils are the regenerating, oxygenating and immune defense properties of plants
  • The molecular size of essential oils is so small they quickly penetrate the tissues of the skin.
  • Essential oils are lipid soluble and are capable of penetrating cell walls, even if they have hardened because of oxygen deficiency. They can affect every cell of the body within 20 minutes and are metabolized like other nutrients.
  • Essential oils contain oxygen molecules that help transport nutrients to cells. They stimulate the immune system by providing needed oxygen. Disease begins when cells lack oxygen for proper nutrient assimilation.
  • Essential oils are powerful antioxidants.
  • Essential oils are anti-bacterial, anti-cancerous, anti-fungal, anti-infectious, anti-microbial, anti-tumoral, anti-parasitic, anti-viral, and antiseptic.
  • Essential oils may help detoxify the body.
  • Essential oils restore balance to the body and help promote emotional, physical and spiritual healing.
  • Essential oils have a bio-electrical frequency that is several times higher than the frequency of herbs, food or the human body. Clinical research has shown that essential oils can quickly raise the frequency of the human body, restoring it to a healthy level.
